This article explains how to change your password on Facebook. It covers how it works if you’re already logged in and how to reset your password if you can’t log in.

How to Change a Facebook Password

Follow these steps to change the password for Facebook from a desktop web browser. These directions also work for the mobile app, but the screenshots are of the Facebook website.

  5. Enter your current password in the first box, followed by the new password in the next two boxes.

    Try your best to make a strong password and ensure that it isn’t used for any of your other online accounts. If it’s too tough to remember, you can store it in a password manager .
  6. SelectChange password to finish up.

What to Do If You Forgot Your Facebook Password

If you’re unable to sign in to Facebook because you forgot your password, follow this process instead:

  1. Open the Facebook website or app and try to sign in. Enter your real phone number or email address, but then type any password you want.

  8. Enter a new Facebook password and then selectContinue .

  9. If you see a prompt about approving the login request, follow the on-screen directions, such as using your authenticator app , to log in with your new Facebook password.
